Inflammation & Immunology
Inflammatory diseases, such as asthma, arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease, involve ongoing inflammation where the body does not return to its normal healthy state. There are a wide range of factors which can cause inflammation excess, including lifestyle and external pollutants.
Chronic inflammation can also be caused by some autoimmune diseases, when the body’s auto immune systems switch off.
With an inflammatory disease, increased blood flow and cells to the affected area can cause inflammation, pain, swelling and loss of function.
Diseases exhibiting these behaviours include allergies, asthma, arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease, amongst others.
Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to help clients develop drugs to address the therapeutic area of inflammation and immunology.
Flow cytometry is a popular technique used to examine the characteristics of cells or particles. It can simultaneously analyse multiple parameters such as relative size, internal complexity, relative fluorescence intensity, etc on the same cell within seconds.
Cells are passed through a focused laser beam to produce optical signals including light scattering and fluorescence, which are characteristic to them. There are various technology platforms such as Attune Nxt (Thermo Fisher) and Guava® (Merck Millipore) that successfully measure physical and chemical properties of cells.
Our bioscientists are well-experienced in using these platforms for a wide range of cell analysis applications ranging from phenotyping to cell health and viability.
