Richard Harrison and Tim Johnson in our process research & development (PR&D) team recently validated process work on 1KG of an API prior to technical transfer to a pilot plant.
Working in conjunction with our medicinal chemistry colleagues, who developed the initial small molecule project over a number of months, PR&D went on to successfully develop 10g to 1kg.
It was achieved using a Radleys 10L Controlled Laboratory Reactor. The software monitors and logs data ensuring reproducibility, robustness of the process, and transferability to the client.
Richard commented:
“This was a really interesting development project that has seen us take a synthetic method suited to small molecule drug discovery and adapt and optimise it to produce much larger quantities of material. We have avoided the need for chromatography on this scale and have ensured a reliable supply of material for our client”
